Windshield Installation; Who Cares?

By April 22, 2009May 7th, 2019No Comments

Just attended an awesome seminar tonite (thank you www.jacksglass.com) where we learned more than I ever thought I’d need to know about windshield repair.

While I have always used Jack’s Glass in Allentown for all my own windshield issues,  I didn’t know as much as I thought I did.  Until tonite.

Seems the big three reasons to have a proper install on the windshield are:

  1. It keeps you IN the car during a crash.  If it’s improperly installed, it may pop, sending you outside of the vehicle.  Not good.  That raises the chance of a fatality by 90%!
  2. It maintains the integrity of the roof.  During a rollover, it preserves the passenger compartment, helping you avoid or minimize injuries.
  3. It acts as a backboard for the airbags when they are deployed.  If the windshield is not there, the passenger side airbag does not have a stable area upon which to rest, causing you to hit the dash, making the airbag kind of useless.

Installation is based on using quality products (primers, glues, etc.) applied by trained, certified windshield experts.  Ask if your shop is certified.  Ask if the installer is certified.  (Look for NGA and AGRSS)

Additionally, don’t rush the folks.  Curing times vary by temperature, humidity and type of product applied.  If it doesn’t cure properly, it’s not going to work.  The  safe “Drive Away” time is important.  Listen to the professional and obey the “downtime” restrictions!

You have to do all you can to insure a safe ride:

  • Drive wisely
  • Buckle up.  EVERY TIME.
  • Avoid distractions
  • Make sure your vehicle is in good condition (tires properly inflated, windshield correctly installed, fluids checked, maintenance program in place)

Every time you drive, everything is at risk.  Do what you can to insure that you and your family are safe.  It’s important for you.  It’s important to us!
